Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception
“Someone is going to starve”, one student quipped. “Yeah, we all are,” said another. Everyone laughed. The catechist used a fun game to help the students understand that we are called to live and work in community. So much more can be accomplished when we work together to establish God’s kingdom in the world.
In this game girls can’t just feed girls and boys can’t just feed boys. We rise above our differences and work together in peace and harmony, complementing each other. The game also showed that we should support our leaders and share our own gifts and talents for the benefit of all. Through discussions and activities like this, they prepare and encourage each other to be disciples.
Helping the students learn to witness the faith to each other in small group situations offers a safe place to understand the faith. It helps to prepare them to go out and spread the Kingdom of God in the world. The mandate to be disciples can be overwhelming. They are encouraged to take this on in little steps.
