Indian Mission

This November, our classrooms took time to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Month, recognizing the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous communities.

Cecelia Curtis-Cook, her husband Brandon Cook and Fr. Peter Byrne went to a Kateri Tekakwitha conference in Spokane on September 11th.

The AICO spoke with Fr. David Bailey, Assistant Director, Native American Affairs, Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church, USCCB, concerning the USCCB document “Keeping Christ’s Sacred Promise, a Pastoral Framework for Indigenous Ministry."

The Faith Formation program held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham holds regular weekly classes and will move towards confirmation in March with Bishop Zarama.

The St. Bernard Mission School at the Catholic Indian Mission in Ft. Yates, North Dakota began a new school year at the end of August 2025.

Maȟpíya Lúta students and staff once again wore bright orange shirts to honor Indigenous children who were taken from their families and placed in Boarding schools.
