Indian Mission

Public masses resumed in June on the Standing Rock Reservation, but the ministry team is still reeling from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, with people leery of participating in public gatherings due to rising infection rates in this largely Native American population.

Before churches on the Rosebud reservation opened in August, St. Francis Mission was able to have family groups come to celebrate baptisms and confirmations.

What a wonderful first week of school we have had at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shawano, WI! Our 133 students, 43 of which are NEW, and staff were so happy to be back together again in our safe, fun, and faith-filled learning environment.

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shawano has had a very exciting school year with both in person and virtual instruction so far. We are so excited to share that our enrollment is the highest it has been in over 15 school years!

Each year on September 30, Orange Shirt Day offers a chance to acknowledge Indian boarding school survivors as we remember the trauma that these schools inflicted on generations of Indigenous peoples across North America. This day opens the door to global conversation and is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of residential schools and the legacy they have left behind. In that shared spirit, Red Cloud grieves these tragic injustices in our own past and commits to addressing that history with honesty and humility.
