Tigua Native American Ministry
The beginning of a new school year can be nerve wracking, especially when you are beginning Pre-K and K-3. For the children at Ysleta del Sur Pueblo that new experience got under way on Monday, August 5. Familiar faces, teachers and staff welcomed the children ready to kick off a new year full of excitement, learning and new opportunities.
I along with Rev. Miguel Briseño, OFM, Conv accompanied the Pueblo’s Tribal and Traditional Council to offer a blessing for a successful, exciting, and fun filled year full of learning and new possibilities. The children opened the morning with chant and dance, followed by the blessing by Chief Jose Sierra, War Captain Rene Lopez, and Rev. Miguel Briseño, OFM, Conv.
The experience for these children in a learning environment surrounded by family and members of the Pueblo community will only enhance and reinforce their education and growth. The children have a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in how to read and write. They will have the support of their traditional leaders to nourish, teach, and live traditions, as well as the ministries involvement in teaching and supporting the faith.
The ministry looks forward to the months ahead when we will host activities and events for them at the Mission, but also participating and being a part of their school activities.
