Pace Continues Their Traditional Antioch Retreat

September 03, 2021

Monsignor Edward Pace High School

Antioch was the ancient town where the disciples of Jesus were first known as Christians. This is also the title of the traditional overnight off-campus retreat which is designed for sophomores at Monsignor Pace High School. Antioch provides the opportunity for the Theology Department to introduce students to what it means to follow Jesus as young people. In an effort to provide the students with a safe in-person retreat experience and also to continue the tradition of what most alumni feel was their favorite retreat during their four years at Pace, the retreat was modified to a two day event hosted on campus.

25 sophomores attended the retreat located in our chapel in order to experience some of what the Antioch weekend retreat had to offer. While it was not an overnight experience, Mr. Andres Novela ’02, Director of Campus Ministry and Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez, theology teacher and alumni relations team member, provided two reflections that are featured on the weekend. This was coupled with an amazing group that composed our retreat team. They were the students who led icebreakers, small groups, singing and a beautiful skit/interpretive dance. A fun and faith-filled time was had by all and the Theology department was ecstatic to be able to keep traditions alive during the challenging limitations that COVID-19 and the pandemic have brought.

Another day retreat for sophomores is planned for the fall with the hope of being able to return to overnight retreats in the near future.
