St. Francis of Assisi, Happy and Healthy
The past few months have been awesome! As I reported in the last article, it is wonderful to have students back in person. We have also had a small increase in student population, always a joyful event. Of course, new students are a bit anxious at first, but soon the warmth of St. Francis School envelops them and they are happy to be here!
Our Christmas play became an Epiphany play because of weather-related days out of school. During the last days of school in December, we had some significant snow, actually a welcome event in this of drought. The pictures of our Christmas/Epiphany play are good illustrations of how life is different in this pandemic - costumes were minimal.
During Catholic Schools Week we were able to host a Scholastic Book Fair for the first time in two years. We also held our second annual “Miracle Fair.” Students researched a saint and produced a display about the saint’s life and work. While we couldn’t have a gathering of the public for this event, we scheduled students to view each other’s work and to learn about saints.
The Science Fair was held in early February. Students in grades five through eight entered the Fair and each was judged by three judges during the school day. Judges’ times were staggered through the day to be able to maintain Covid distancing procedures. The students who placed first, second, or third in each class, are eligible for the regional competition. We congratulate our winners!
